Keeping the Castle
by Patrice Kindl
A new addition to the Tayshas list for 2013!
Set in England in the early 1800's, this story follows Althea, her mother, her young brother, and her two, not quite evil but certainly not friendly step-sisters. With her father and step-father both passed on, leaving the family very little money, it is now Althea's job to marry well and provide for the family. The problem is, every suitor that comes her way is entirely unsuitable!
If you love Jane Austen, you will love this book. If you have never read Jane Austen, this is be a great place to start.
This book is written in the style of that wonderful authoress, only without the dated language and confusing character names. Present are strong female characters who don't mind speaking their mind, attractive and pleasantly wealthy men by the bucket loads, and of course, the dark and brooding man who we just can't bring ourselves to hate. This story is a frothy delight with just the the right amount of attitude. While the ending is utterly predictable, it's what makes the book so enjoyable. Like watching a made for TV movie during the Christmas season, everything works out just the way you want it to.
